This Fountain Pen is constructed from a lovely piece of recycled second hand rare Brazilian Mahogany that I bought in the 1970’s to make a clock from but I never completed but held on to the timber. It has Chrome Plated Fittings and is nicely balanced making it pleasant to use. The pen is “pillared” so that the cap can be screwed on the back of the pen to extend it for anyone who likes to use a longer pen and an everyday pen that is unique. The nib has an iridium point and comes in a velvet pouch for protection (or velvet pen case as an added extra). This pen has been made and is ready to post. Please make sure that you look at all the pictures.

About The Timber
Mahogany has a straight, fine, and even grain, and is relatively free of voids and pockets. Its reddish-brown colour darkens over time and displays a reddish sheen when polished. It has excellent workability and is very durable. Historically, the tree’s girth allowed for wide boards from traditional mahogany species. These properties make it a favourable wood for crafting cabinets and furniture.
Mahogany is still widely used for fine furniture; however, the rarity of this mahogany, the over-harvesting of Honduras and Brazilian mahogany, combined with the protests by indigenous peoples and environmental organizations from the 1980s into the 2000s, have diminished their use. Recent mahogany production from other countries have a lighter colour and density than South American production from the early 20th century.
This particular piece was originally bought, by myself, to make a clock with, in the 1970s, but was never used and has been stored in my shed ever since.

Each pen is made using sustainable or recycled timber and top quality components. Once turned and sanded, to give the best possible protection it has up to ten coats of finish and then a museum grade Microcrystalline wax polish. It comes complete in a velvet sleeve, full instructions on the care of the pen and a certificate of authenticity, confirming that I have turned the pen personally and in most cases the date it was constructed.
This pen is constructed from timber. Being a natural material each piece is unique in colour and figuring, which will slightly change colour and darken in time. The pen may be smooth to the touch or you may be able to feel the grain, blemishes and faults in the wood under the finish. Pens that are really smooth, with no blemishes are made of plastic!
