This Fountain Pen is constructed from a lovely piece of “Brown Oak” and Gold Plated Fittings. It is nicely balanced and pleasant to use. The pen is “pillared” so that the cap can be screwed on the back of the pen to extend it for anyone who likes to use a longer pen. The nib has an iridium point.
This pen has been made and is ready to post. It comes complete with a ink cartridges, a converter so that bottled ink can be used and in a velvet pouch for protection it (or black velvet pen box with white and blue interior for an extra charge).

About the Timber
Brown Oak is technically not a distinct species of oak, but rather refers to oak, usually English Oak, that has been infected with a fungus. This fungus has the effect of turning the wood to brown / deep brown colour. Once the wood has been cut and dried, the fungus dies, leaving a rich golden brown timber.
Oak is probably one of the most well-known deciduous timbers. There are said to be over 500 different knowns varieties of this tree and is known for its strength. Historically it was extensively used in ship building from at least the Viking era.
It was also used in the making of good quality furniture, barrels and numerous other items.
A lot of people do not like using oak as the grain can be very course, difficult to work and get a glass like finish. However, I feel that most people buy a wooden pen for it to feel like a wooden pen and not a piece of plastic. Most of the oak that I use is English, but it is not always easy to tell particularly that sourced from old furniture.

More Details
This pen is unique and made using sustainable or recycled timber or resin and top quality components. Once turned and sanded to give the best possible protection it has a number of coats of finish and then a polish. It comes complete in a pouch and full instructions on the care of the pen. Also certificate of authenticity, confirming that I have turned the pen personally and the date it was constructed.
The pen is constructed from timber. Being a natural material each piece is unique in colour and figuring, which will slightly change colour and darken in time. The pen may be smooth to the touch. However, you may be able to feel the grain, blemishes and faults in the wood under the finish. Pens that are really smooth, with no blemishes are made of plastic!
Delivery
All of my pens are UK post free and are usually dispatched within two days by 1st Class Mail (24 Tracked). For orders outside the UK please see the overseas postage charges. These will be sent by Tracked Royal Mail International Standard. Also be aware that the buyer is responsible for any additional import and custom taxes.
