English Sweet Chestnut is a hardwood that very closely resembles Oak and has been sometimes referred to as being “Poor Man’s Oak”, although when it is dry it has a creamier colour. It has many of the characteristics of Oak with a straight grain and strength.
The grain pattern is actually a real feature, it is open, fairly coarse, making it ideal for wide expanses on tables or worktops. It also has a fairly dense grain and with a good Tannin content it has inherent durability, great for outdoor tables.
