About This Fountain Pen Timber Pen
All of my wooden pens are made from recycled, repurposed or sustainable timber. Further information regarding the type of wood this pen is made from will be contained in the information sheet. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Any wood species, that is not listed as being recycled or repurposed comes from sustainable stock and is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Mahogany has a straight, fine, and even grain, and is relatively free of voids and pockets. Its reddish-brown colour darkens over time and displays a reddish sheen when polished. It has excellent workability and is very durable. Historically, the tree’s girth allowed for wide boards from traditional mahogany species. These properties make it a favourable wood for crafting cabinets and furniture.
Mahogany was once used widely used for fine furniture; however, due to over harvesting is now not used by responsible people
This particular piece was originally bought, by myself, to make a clock with, in the 1970s, but the clock was never completed and has now been recycled to make these pen blanks.
