This nice wooden Ballpoint Twist Pen is constructed from a nice piece of repurposed Brazilian Mahogany with Chrome/Antique Gold coloured fittings. The ring between the wood and gold has a tiny Celtic Twist design which is based on the Celtic (Love) Knot . In the knot the two interlocking hearts chiefly represents two people joined together in love and the continuous line represents the eternity of love. According to historians, Celtic Love Knots were exchanged between people as a token of affection, much like we exchange rings today.

It comes fitted with a Parker G2 style refill. The mechanism is bidirectional so the pen nib can be extended by turning the top finial clockwise or counter clockwise. This pen has been made and is ready to post.

Brazilian Mahogany Ballpoint Pen- About The Timber

Mahogany has a straight, fine, and even grain, and is relatively free of voids and pockets. Its reddish-brown colour darkens over time and displays a reddish sheen when polished. It has excellent workability and is very durable. Historically, the tree’s girth allowed for wide boards from traditional mahogany species. These properties make it an especially favourable wood for crafting cabinets and furniture.

Mahogany is still widely used for fine furniture; however, the rarity of Cuban mahogany, the over-harvesting of Honduras and Brazilian mahogany, and the protests by indigenous peoples and environmental organizations from the 1980s into the 2000s, have diminished their use. Recent mahogany production from Mexico and Fiji has a lighter colour and density than South American production from the early 20th century.

This particular piece was originally bought to make a clock with, in the 1970s, but was never used and has been stored in my shed ever since.

General Details

Every pen is unique each being made using sustainable, reclaimed, recycled timber or resin and fitted with top quality components.  Once turned and sanded, to give the best possible protection it has numerous coats of finish and then a polish. To protect you pen it comes in a velvet sleeve, unless otherwise stated, full instructions on the care of the pen and a certificate of authenticity, confirming that I personally turned  the pen and the date it was constructed.

This pen body is made from timber which, being a natural material, makes each piece unique in colour and figuring, and will slightly change colour and darken in time. The pen may be smooth to the touch or you may be able to feel the grain, blemishes and faults in the wood under the finish. Pens that are really smooth, with no blemishes are made of plastic!
