Any wood species, that is not listed as being recycled or repurposed comes from sustainable stock and is not listed in the CITES Appendices or on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

For once the name wood is very apt as this Purpleheart fountain pen is dark purple! It is a lovely wood that is often used as an inlay, flooring, furniture, boatbuilding, heavy construction, and as well as a variety of decorative wooden items. Purpleheart is rated as being very durable, and resists both decay and most insect attacks, although with age and exposure to UV light, the wood will eventually become a dark purplish brown.

Working with purpleheart can present some unique challenges: if the wood is heated with dull tools, or if cutter speeds are too high, purpleheart will exude a gummy resin that can clog tools and complicate the machining process.
